We offer grooming 7 days a week. Appointment times will vary based on the day and season. We typically start booking at 8:00 AM, with our last appointment of the day at 3:00 PM. If you have special needs that do not fall within these times, please let our staff know and we will make every effort to accommodate you.
Our groomers are willing to take appointments as late as 4:00 PM depending on the day of the week and availability. If you need a later appointment, we suggest you make your appointment as far in advance as possible.
It is good to have your puppy become familiar with grooming as early as possible after the first set of puppy shots, usually 12-16 weeks of age. This will help him learn at an early that grooming is a pleasant experience. See our Puppy Introduction information.
Older pets often need special care and attention. We recommend the style be kept short and easy to maintain to keep the grooming process to a minimum amount of time. Often we need to use more than one staff person to ensure the safety of your geriatric pet. We often do most of the grooming on the floor for pets that have difficulty standing.
2-3 cycles of shampoo, 1 cycle of conditioner, hand-dry as tolerated by dog (we do not use heated dryers), brush and/or comb out.

All fees are based on the length of time it takes to complete the service rather than by breed. Size, behavior, condition and health of coat, length and density of coat, and length of time between visits will all affect the price.
We are not the most expensive salon in the city, however our higher fees reflect the time and quality of care we give each pooch we see.
Because there is no license requirement, anyone can call themselves a “groomer”. However, at DoGone Fun our groomers have at least 800 hours of formal training or at least 5 years of grooming experience. All groomers take additional training at Animal Career Academy and tutelage from our Master Groomer, Dan. They are also required to attend grooming industry continuing education. Other facilities that hire “trained” groomers generally require only 300-400 hours of training.
Dog groomers are not licensed. At DoGone Fun our grooming is managed by Dan Vaughn who voluntarily completed a Master Grooming & Dermatech Certification program which required hundreds of hours of study, coursework and written as well as practical exams.
To maintain a proper/manageable coat for non-shedding breeds, such as Poodles, Bichons, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Terriers, you should have your dog groomed every 4-6 weeks. If they are kept in a very short cut, these breeds may be able to go 8-10 weeks. Breeds that have short, shedding coats can usually wait 8-12 weeks between grooming appointments, as long as they are brushed regularly at home.
Generally a dog’s nails need trimming every 6 weeks.
In order to maintain a safe environment, it is DoGone Fun’s policy that dogs must be current on their rabies, distemper and bordatella (kennel cough) vaccinations. You should schedule vaccinations at least 48 hours prior to your grooming appointment. The waiting period helps to ensure your pet isn’t sore at the injection site, which can cause irritability or lethargy. We will accept a letter from your veterinarian exempting your dog from one or all of the vaccinations.
When you make an appointment, we set aside a block of time with a groomer and bather specifically for your dog. Because this time is “yours” and no one else will be scheduled to come at that same time, we ask that you reserve the time with a credit card. Please see our cancellation policy in the event of a last minute cancellation or re-schedule.
Our highly qualified groomers are not paid hourly or salary, but rather given a percentage of each dog they style. Therefore, any last minute cancellation has a large impact on his/her paycheck. We also bring in our bathers based on scheduled appointments and an unexpected vacancy will result in hours that are not off set with revenue. Therefore, it is our policy to charge a fee up to the full price of the visit for cancellations or re-scheduling with less than 24 hour notice. Please see our credit card policy.
Most clients prefer to keep the same groomer. If your dog is nervous and/or you have specific requests, we find that coming back to the same groomer works best because it fosters a relationship between the client, groomer and dog.

Little or no hand scissoring generally takes less time.

If you need your dog groomed in less time, please explain your needs when making your appointment and we will do our best to find a day and time to accommodate your request.
To minimize the stress on the dogs, we prefer they be picked up as soon after they are finished, as possible. We have several options available to avoid a long day including later appointment times and Sunday grooming. If that is not possible, many of our clients choose to have their dogs assessed to go to Daycare for a half day prior to their grooming. If your dog is unable to go into Daycare and is in the grooming area for more than 5 hours, we will walk them for an additional fee.

No, absolutely not. Our grooming associates are trained to hand dry pets after they have been bathed. This not only results in a better quality finish but allows our staff to closely inspect your dog’s skin for potential health concerns. If there is ever a need to “air dry” your pet, he or she is placed in a staging area with a room temperature circulating fan.
We prefer hand drying all dogs with a variable speed, high velocity dryer. This allows us to get a better finished look as well as gives us a chance to get a good look at your dog’s skin to asses any potential health issues. If your dog does not tolerate this method, we will use a non-heated air circulating fan to “air dry” the coat.
Our grooming areas are visible through glass. Please inform us of your desire to watch when making the appointment, so we can find a day and time that will be the least disruptive to you or our other clients.
It is not uncommon for dogs to get overly excited if they are able to see their owner, creating an unsafe condition for the dog. If this occurs, we may find it necessary to ask you either to watch from a greater distance or step away so we can safely attend to your dog.
If the hair is allowed to knot or develop “matts”, it is unhealthy for the dog’s skin. It may be possible to “dematt” the coat, if it can be done without causing pain to the dog. Unfortunately, the process is often painful or can cause irritation to the dog’s skin. If your dog is matted, we will discuss with you what can be done.
Matted coats can cause a variety of skin and health problems. When your pet is extremely tangled, matted, or densely coated there are increased risks of stress, trauma, and/or injury. If possible, we will carefully de-mat your pet’s coat. If the coat is severely matted or we determine that de-matting would be in-humane for your pet, we will need to remove the coat with clippers.

All of our products and tools are selected to promote the health of your dog’s skin and coat. Many of the less expensive tools available are not designed with this in mind and actually cause micro damage to your dog’s skin and coat.
Our groomers are familiar with most of the breed standards and are very experienced with more popular breeds. Many clients do not groom to the breed standard because of the maintenance required. Your groomer will gladly review the breed page in “Notes from the Grooming Table” and discuss your desires as well as the individual needs of your pet.
Also, we encourage you to bring in pictures of previous grooms, if available.
At DGF only gentle grooming practices are used. This means that if a dog is being difficult or trying to bite while being groomed, a second person is called in to talk to and offer reassurance to your dog. We are always very honest with our clients regarding their dog’s behavior. We have heard very sad stories about how difficult dogs are treated at grooming shops and make sure that does not happen to any of our clients.
Your satisfaction is very important to us! If you notice something at pick up and one of our staff members are still in, they can often take care of it for you prior to leaving the facility. If you notice something after you leave, we ask that you give us a call within 48 hours so we can arrange a time to tweak the groom while it is still relatively fresh.
Not necessarily, he may just be anxious from the car ride, excited, or not sure if he is going to the vet to get a shot. Much like kids in pre-school, once you are gone they settle in and get comfortable. In fact, they often pull us into the grooming area! We always allow the dog to roam around and smell the salon a bit to familiarize themselves with their environment.
Dogs are very intuitive and will pick up any anxiety that you may be feeling, so it is important that you be calm and reassuring.

Because we are a full service dog facility and have as many as 100+ dogs in house each day, we do not feel it is a good environment for grooming cats. Many of our clients have had good results taking their cats to The Grooming Gallery.
It is our policy at DGF not to accept dogs that have a history of biting. However, the grooming staff may agree to attempt a groom if they feel they can safely control the risks. Please understand that if we agree to attempt a groom and are unable to do so, you will still be charged the full fee.
Absolutely, although our top rated product line is designed to promote a healthy coat and skin.
If your veterinarian has prescribed or suggested an alternate shampoo rather than our product line, we will gladly use it. Please note, many prescribed shampoos/conditioners require 5-10 minutes of contact time. If this is the case, our bather will stay with your dog and gently massage the product into their coat and skin. An additional fee will be added for this time.

Hand stripping involves plucking the dead hair by hand or with use of a tool rather than clipping or cutting the coat. This results in a coarser hair texture, which is the “correct” method of grooming for most terriers. The process takes more time, the cost is somewhat higher, and the dog will need to come in regularly every 4-5 weeks for ongoing maintenance.
When making your appointment, please inform us that your dog requires hand stripping, so we can book them in an appropriate time slot and with the correct stylist.
These are scent sacs found right under your dog’s tail. Some dogs empty them naturally, some do not. Please consult with your veterinarian whether they recommend we express them or not. Some veterinarians prefer that groomers NOT express the glands, so we ask that you consult with your veterinarian before we externally express your dog’s glands.
